The latest buzz in the racing world has been about all McKenna Haase! McKenna is both a Mahaska and TYR Endurance Sport sponsored athlete. Coming off her second win at Iowa’s Knoxville Raceway, the young racer is on her way to becoming one of the best racers in the sport and proving to be an amazing role model to her younger fans.
McKenna began her career in racing at the Knoxville Raceway just last year. When she was little, McKenna gained notoriety for herself in racing Outlaw dirt karts and micro-sprints. Her interest in racing grew after she met driver, Kacey Kane, at a Tennessee Mall leading her to soon follow NASCAR closely. Despite the daunting task of joining the largely male-dominated career and her parent’s hesitation over allowing her to join such a dangerous sport, McKenna decided to take on the challenge and has now established herself as a great competitor to all.
Last month, on May 17th, something very special happened for McKenna. After a great race, May 17th will now be remembered as the day that McKenna Haase claimed the historic title of being the FIRST EVER female to win a feature Sprint Race at Knoxville. Last weekend, McKenna also achieved her second career win – two wins in less than one month!
McKenna Haase is an extremely driven individual (no puns intended) and not a stranger to awards and accomplishments. On top of being the first female to win at Knoxville Raceway, McKenna did so at the age of 18, just two years after a person is legally allowed to drive! Then, about 8 hours after her win, McKenna gave her Valedictorian commencement speech at her high school graduation. Also noted is that she also earned the title of All Conference in Golf for her high school, has a second degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do, AND has a stock portfolio!
When asked about her venture into the dangerous sport of racing, McKenna responded with, “Everybody always asks me, if racing scares me? And it’s not the racing that scares me, but it’s the thought of where I’d be without it.”
McKenna is headed off to Drake University in the fall, and will be continuing expanding her talents while studying finance there.
Congratulations again, McKenna! We are so proud to have you as one of our sponsored athletes. Look out for McKenna Haase and her pink, #55 car at the next race on June 27th at Knoxville Raceway for the Mid Season Championships.
